Reflection:
What I've noticed throughout my few years of teaching is the sometimes limiting resources on the internet in school due to the filters. Some of the resources, such as pictures or videos, are blocked because of the site they're on. I've had to find a work-around in order to obtain pieces of content for my class. Lately, I've been looking into designing a class website, however the ones I'm already familiar with are either blocked or I don't find appealing enough to use.
My school filters the necessary websites so that students do not misuse the internet. Given the chance, most will go to sites inappropriate for school. Even Youtube has some non-age appropriate videos. If a student misuses the computer, their privileges are revoked, and their ability to use technology is gone.
Not many teachers in my school have a personal website for classes. The ones that do are very limited and have basic contact info. I have seen a few teachers use their websites to post class updates and upcoming events. What I'd like to do is create my own website so I can post my lessons and links to resources for the students. I believe this will help them better understand and integrate technology and education into the classroom.

Module 3
Energy Self-Study
1. Determine an Essential Question: How does the school waste energy and how can we reduce our energy consumption?
Recently, our school was observed by the district to have a higher than normal energy consumption usage. This costs our school money and puts our administration in a tight spot. What the administration observed was that teachers left their computers on overnight, rather than turn them off when they left school. Yet, that was the only school-wide observation made by admins.
2. Operationalize the essential research question: What do students and teachers do that wastes energy?
In order for the essential research question to be operational, I will have to change the question for students to be able to understand how to collect data. They also need to know what type of data to collect. Students may observe their classes and take note of energy waste. One teacher may do one thing, whereas another teacher does something else to waste energy.
3. Create a Preconception so you can track your own learning: I leave my projector on throughout the whole day, and allow students to charge their cell-phones in class.
My computer and projector are on from the second the first class starts in the morning to the second before I leave for home. I also allow students to charge their cell-phones, since they may not be able to at home and it keeps them from using it in class. Other teachers may not even use their projector, or allow students to bring out their cell-phones. However, there are other ways that other teachers waste energy in their classes, the only ones who have access to them is their own students. Most people may not realize they are wasting energy unless someone else tells them they are.

Directions:
- Under "Energy Waste Method" come up with ways you notice energy is wasted in the classroom. Ask other students.
- For every period through the day/week check the box if that period wastes that specific method of energy.

Module 4
4. Existing Information through informal Research
There are websites with up-to-date information regarding energy saving tips for schools. This seems to be a problem for many schools, new and old. From heating to cooling, lights and electronic devices, many schools around the nation have come up with ways of conserving energy.
The schools can save thousands of dollars a year for following a few simple steps in energy efficiency.
5. Relevant Data Collection
In order to find out how this school wastes energy, I need to be able to look into other classes and observe energy consumption. However, I can't do that myself. I can't leave my class and walk into another and note energy waste. Instead, I'll have the students observe the classes themselves. They'll go to each of their classes and note different energy wastes.
6. Data Collection Methods
In order to collect the data, I'll have to recruit some students to collect the data for me. I offered extra credit for students willing to participate I'll create a blank spreadsheet, they will note which of their classes throughout the week wastes energy. They'll observe different ways their classes consume/waste energy and note if any other classes do the same. Some classes will waste energy one way, and other classes will another way. Either way, it's still wasting energy and costing the school money.
7. Data Collection Results
Before starting the collection of data, I had the volunteer students write down a few ways they think classrooms waste energy. This way, they know beforehand what to look for. If they find other ways of energy waste, they have a few extra columns to write them down. I had 3 student volunteers with 7 classes.
Common Ways that energy was observed being wasted wasted/left on when not in use:
All 3 students noted these in every class:
There were other ways some classes wasted energy that other classes didn't:

Module 5
Posted Discussion Questions:
·Opportunities, issues, tips to share regarding your PowerPoint, or final posting?
Problem with collecting data, some students forget or misplaced their sheets. Wasn't able to create PPT on time.
·What was the most significant realization to emerge from comparing your preconception inventory with what you learned?
So far, I thought the collection of data would be the easiest, as some students can make up data without me knowing.
·What did you see that you liked about your presentation style?
I haven't been able to create one yet, my data is incomplete to make any analysis.
·What did you feel that you wanted to change?
The way data is collected in a timely manner. I need to give more of an incentive for students to do so.
·Overall, was watching yourself helpful in improving your professional practice?
What Ive learned so far, is that creating a lesson that's outside my regular content poses some extra challenges.

Step 12
This project was about Energy Consumption in Chaparral High School. A few weeks ago, Chaparral High School had a notice come down from the district about our higher than average energy use. To try to lower their consumption, the Administration asked teachers to shut off their computers over the weekend. I decided to expand upon the idea of conserving energy in the school. I first needed to find out other ways the school was wasting energy, so I recruited some students to observe their other classes. They looked around their other classes for a week and noted what was happening. Afterwards, they
What I learned is that students, teachers and the school as a whole wastes energy in various ways throughout the week. Some even depended on the type of class being taught. What I also learned throughout the lesson was how to use various resources on the internet to assist me in creating a website for my students. What I could do is get more students involved with the information gathering process, then create a report for each of their classes, describing the energy waste, and offering tips on reducing consumption.
